Thermaltake Core X9 Review

Price: $169.99

Thermaltake Core X9 Introduction:

Thermaltake is again on top of things with the release of the Core X series of cube cases. The Core X9 is the largest in the series, followed by the Core X2 and the core X1. The  Core X1 is for an ITX build, while the Core X2 is setup for a mATX build and finally, the massive Core X9 is designed to handle everything up to and including an E-ATX motherboard.

Cube-style cases are often found in the world of compact HTPC (Home Theater PC) cases, where a small case comes in handy when your system footprint is limited. But the Core X cases are at the other end of the size spectrum. They are stackable and highly modular, which will get the attention of anyone looking to build a custom DIY or AIO water cooled system. The side panels are interchangeable and even the I/O panel can be moved to the opposite side of the case. One word I will use a lot in this review is modularity, since that is the foundation in which this case is built.

Thermaltake Core X9 Closer Look:

First, let's look at the box. It is hard to get a true perspective on the size of the box, but let's just say that it is huge. You know those little refrigerators you used in college in your dorm? Well, one of those would fit in this box. Fortunately there are two handles built into the sides of the box to make the job of moving it around a little easier. Up front we have a nice graphic of the case and a Tt LCS Certified badge stating that this case is liquid cooling supported and just below that, we see that the case is Modular Ready and Stacking Ready. No fancy colors or flaming dragons. Just cardboard and black ink.

On the rear of the box is another graphic that shows an exploded view of the case, highlighting the modularity of all the internal components and panels. This looks to be rather complex and I can't wait to see all the details up close. The side panels show the features (in twelve languages) and specifications. The list of supported fans and radiators is impressive.

The standard heavy Styrofoam end caps keep the case in perfect condition. A plastic bag does a fine job of protecting the case finish from the wear induced by the Styrofoam on the journey to your door.
