Synology DiskStation DS1515+ NAS: Installation

With the drive trays removed you can see the massive amount of space that is set up for the five drive bays. Way in the back you can also see the five hot-swap SATA ports that connect the drives easily to the system. Each of the drive trays is made of plastic to reduce noise vibrations. The hard drives just sit into the tray and on each side is a plastic locking connector that snaps into place and holds the drive. Then you just slide the drive tray with the drive into the slot with the drive LED upwards until it pops into place and lock it in by pushing the tray handle in. You can see below all five drives easily go into the system with no issues.

Another thing of note for the installation is that the fans on the back of the NAS are replaceable very easily. There are two screws in each of the fan holders that you remove and then just unplug the fan. With both fans removed you can also see the drives sitting nicely in their bays.

Now that we have the drives in, let's fire it up and see how the software works.
