SanDisk Extreme PRO 480GB SSD Software:

One of the little pieces of paper included in the SanDisk Extreme PRO retail packaging expounded the virtues of the SanDisk SSD Dashboard and included a link to download it. Being inquisitive, I grabbed the software and fired it up after wiping out the disk. The first tab in the software gives you a nice overview of the drive, including the model, capacity, currently used space, and drive health. The second tab, "Performance", gives you a quick way to view how many IOPs and MB/s the drive is currently operating at. The Performance tab also allows you to run TRIM manually to reconcile free space, as well as the ability to schedule periodic TRIM commands if you choose not to trust Windows to do it for you.

The third tab, "Tools", is definitely my favorite. You can update the firmware, check SMART status, erase the drive, and view a million details about both your system setup and the drive itself. The fourth tab includes the ability to upgrade the SSD Dashboard itself, as well as the ability to start up with Windows and to turn off Windows' write buffer flushing. Please don't ever disable the write cache flushing if you care about your data...but it does make benchmarks look great! That being said, I did not disable it for the following testing since it is not a real-world representation of what you'd use on this drive. The last "Help" tab is probably only going to be useful if you have an issue with the drive, but it includes links to the manual, the support page, and the product forums. If you do need to generate a report for warranty reasons, it can be done on this tab as well.
