Reeven Ouranos RC-1401 Review

Reeven Ouranos RC-1401 Conclusion:

The latest releases from Reeven cover both ends of the spectrum.  On the one hand, there are the low profile Steropes and Brontes, aimed at the small form factor and HTPC builds. The designs focus on limited size and not so much on knock-out capacity, which the testing proved. Today we are at the other end of the spectrum with the Ouranos RC-1401, which is a single tower-style cooler, and I have to say that this one certainly surprised me. While the Ouranos is much larger than the Steropes and the Brontes, it is not a massive cooler, like say the Noctua D15, so you wouldn't expect it to perform on the same level as the D15.

Well, the performance was amazing. So much that I reset the overclocking and ran the thermal tests a couple of times to make sure I wasn't missing something. Nope, the Ouranos was really ripping through the heat.

I think the performance can be tied to the dual size heat pipe design along with the way the pipes are oriented in the fin stack. Add to that, the ability of the fan(s) to move plenty of air, and you have a real winner.

And while I would like to see the mounting method updated to be more like the Noctua D15, the installation was still fairly quick and simple. RAM clearance is not a problem and the Ouranos gives you an option of using two fans.

It is a struggle to compete in a market that is flooded with low cost air coolers. Then you have to deal with AIO (all in one) liquid coolers that have now become mainstream and affordable. You have to constantly find every last design trick, to pull every fraction of a degree away from the CPU - and do it for a competitive price. I think Reeven has a real gem with the Ouraons RC-1401.

The build quality is at the high-end and with pricing in the $55 to $58 range, the Reeven Ouranos RC-1401 is worth adding to your system. The only down-side is that the Reeven products are a bit hard to find Stateside. I checked at NewEgg, Tiger Direct, and Amazon with no luck.

  • Amazing performance
  • Quiet operation
  • Option to add a second fan
  • AMD & Intel socket compatibility
  • Memory clearance

  • Hard to find in the US
