Noctua NC-U6 Chipset Cooler

Price: $31 USD

Can you hear it? Silence, that's one of the calling cards for the Noctua NC-U6 chipset cooler we will be looking at today. This chipset cooler features heatpipe cooling, 29 aluminum fins, soldered connections and you guessed it, no fans. With today's hot-running chipsets, the stock cooling is marginal at best. For those who want to reach for and achieve the highest possible clock speeds, replacing the chipset cooling with something better is not optional - it is mandatory. Can a passive chipset cooler fit the bill for your performance needs? Let's find out.

Noctua is an Austrian company born out of the cooperation of 3 different groups, each with their own strengths. Rascom Computerdistribution Ges.m.b.H. has its strength in the distribution side. Kolink International Corporation has its strength in the state of the art manufacturing facilities. Last but not least, the Austrian Institute for Heat-Transmission and Fan Technology, that takes care of the research and development. These three components give the company the ability to meet the demand for high performance and well engineered cooling solutions.

Closer Look:

The NC-U6 is packed in a standard retail blister pack enclosure. Simple yet effective. The reverse side of the product card lists the features and specifications for the NC-U6 in six languages.

Items packed with the NC-U6 include, mounting brackets for both clip-on and push-pin style retention methods, detailed instructions, a generic thermal paste, a foam spacer and a bracket retention screw, to secure the mounting bracket on to the heatsink.

Now that we have seen what is included with the cooler, we can get into more detail on the cooler itself.
