Noctua IndustrialPPC and Redux Fan Roundup Review

Noctua Industrial and Redux: Testing

The Noctua industrialPPC and redux fans will be tested on a Noctua NH-U14S tower cooler. One fan will be tested slightly differently, this is the NF-S12B redux fan. This fan will be tested on the Noctua NH-U14S tower cooler and on the rear of the case. The tower cooler will be mounted according to the recommended installation method given in the included manual. In other words, the Noctua cooler will be mounted vertically near the back of the computer case with a fan between the back wall and the radiator. The fan that is under testing will be pulling air from outside the case and pushing it through the radiator. The load tests will be run in two hour intervals with a one hour break in between each load test. Idle tests will be each run 45 minutes and have 15 minute breaks in between. All system hardware will remain the same during each of the tests and the ambient temperature will be kept as close to 25 degrees Celsius as possible for all tests to be fair. The fans will all be tested at their maximum speeds.

Wow. If those results don't scream that all of these fans come from the same manufacturer I don't know what does. The Load results are pretty much as expected, except for the accidental and impressive inclusion of the S12B case fan, which was still easily in the operating range temperatures of the CPU. The industrialPPC fans are really, obviously powerful and meant to blast away heat. The case fan load and idle temperatures, however, were interesting to say the least. I really thought there would be more of a difference on Case Fan Load from having no fan to having a fan. Then there are the very counter-intuitive idle temperatures which I can only assume are higher due to strange turbulence patterns between the CPU cooler and the case fans.
