Logitech G513 Carbon Gaming Keyboard Introduction:

Is a keyboard on your list when building your gaming rig? Is it an afterthought? It might be if you concentrate only on components like the motherboard and GPU. Of course, those are arguably the most important components, so that is where you will spend the most time researching and reading reviews. But the keyboard, the part that gets hammered on daily, is often pushed off to the side and ignored. It is there for you to mash keys in frustration when you are ambushed in an intense COD battle. It collects dust and dirt from greasy fingers, but it keeps trudging along. Even when you dump a bag of cheese puffs and knock your energy drink over, it keeps on going.

Spending a little time on perhaps one of the most neglected pieces of your gaming hardware can pay off in the long run, as it will very likely outlive several builds. Logitech happens to have some amazing keyboards in its product line up that can withstand all of the aforementioned abuses and still deliver solid capabilities.

Today, we have the G513 Carbon Gaming Keyboard in two flavors, one with Romer-G Linear and the other with Romer-G Tactile switches. Let's see what they look and feel like.

Logitech G513 Carbon Gaming Keyboard Closer Look:

The box is fairly simple and takes up no more space than absolutely necessary. There are three different key switch styles available: Romer-G Tactile, Romer-G Linear, and GX Blue. The G513 Silver is available with Romer-G Tactile switches only. The G513 Carbon is available with all three, so it gives you the most variety. The switch style is listed at the upper right of the box, but otherwise, the boxes are identical. The two keyboards (Linear and Tactile) are physically and dimensionally identical, too.

The keyboard is packed in a protective plastic cover and sits on top of the palm rest. The additional keycaps and puller are sealed in clear plastic and packed in a narrow box next to the keyboard. I notice right away as I lift it out of the box how heavy and substantial the keyboard feels.

The two cables are for USB pass through and keyboard data. You don't have to use the USB pass through if you choose, but of course, you will need to use the data cable. Each cable end is marked with its function.

The USB 2.0 pass through port is at the top right of the keyboard. The retractable feet are rather large and robust and have small rubber inserts that keep the keyboard firmly planted on your tabletop.

The colors are clear, intense, and vivid. Even in daylight where backlit keys often fade out and are hard to see, these LEDs are easy to see. Factor in the Logitech Gaming Software (LGS) on your system, once installed, and you can unlock almost unlimited color effects, key color assignments, and macros.
