Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Performance Analysis

GTX 1070 and GTX 1080

These two GPUs are both based on the newly released Pascal architecture from NVIDIA and sport 8 GB of VRAM. However, while the GTX 1070 uses GDDR5 memory the GTX 1080 uses GDDR5X memory, which is significantly faster. I was able to use the Ultra Texture Quality setting for both GPUs, but I am not sure if I really benefit from this option as my monitor does not feature a 4K/Ultra HD resolution. The GPUs support it, so why not use it?

I am not covering these two GPUs in the same section just because they share the same architecture but because I used the same settings for both:

Vsync Triple Buffering
Texture Quality Ultra
Texture Filtering 16x
Shadow Quality Very High
Contact Hardening Shadows Ultra
Temporal Anti-Aliasing On
Motion Blur Off
Depth of Field Off
Bloom On
Volumetric Lighting Ultra
Subsurface Scattering On
Cloth Physics On
Ambient Occlusion Very High
Tessellation On
Parallax Occlusion Mapping High
Screenspace Reflections Ultra
Sharpen On
Chromatic Aberration Off
Level of Detail Very High

The performance of the two GPUs was nearly identical as well, so at this point it is certainly my CPU holding back overall performance, for the circuit I was running. When inside of structures, where there are fewer objects for the CPU to be concerned with, performance will reach up from the 30-40 FPS average, 45 FPS top, all the way to 60 FPS. Sorry that I cannot unleash the full power of these beasts (or possibly the older GPUs) but regardless we are still seeing an improvement in playable settings. That MSAA 2x setting is actually somewhat interesting because it was decidedly too much for the GTX 980 to handle, but both the GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 were barely phased by it. At 4x they take a noticeable hit, but 2x hardly bothers them, so if you have either of these GPUs, definitely try turning it on.
