Corsair Katar Optical Gaming Mouse Review

Corsair Katar Optical Gaming Mouse Testing:

The Corsair Katar Optical Gaming Mouse was defiantly put through over a week of use and testing. During this time it was used it in everyday use, surfing the Internet, Photoshopping, and, of course, some gaming. As a mouse is personal to each and every individual so how it responds in these various tasks is important in different ways to everyone. This rather subjective review is best to provide you the feedback from use rather than assigning made up numbers trying to compare one mouse to another. It's pretty easy to distinguish the likes and dislikes of a mouse through words rather than leaving it to you to decide what a 7 or 8 really means. No guessing game – here's what I liked, and here's what I hated.

Everyday Use:

It gets harder and harder to pick apart mice for day to day use. For the most part, most good mice will get you by. Unfortunately the Katar finally finds a nerve, one I hadn't realized was a thing until not having said thing. That being side buttons. We often set side buttons to navigate forward and back in browsers, web, and in OS. Not having them was a strange feeling. I felt like it was an old computer that didn't have this simplistic "feature." It really felt unnatural. Besides that odd lesson learned, the mouse was just fine at navigation, being flexible with DPI options, and sliding across a large mouse pad gracefully.

Gaming was quite nice, besides again the obvious grievance of not having at least a single side button. I feel I've complained enough on this, but it's surprisingly annoying. The M60 from a few years ago only had the sniper button, but at least there was at least one button! I felt very comfortable taking a shot with this mouse and playing for a few hours at a time. I was just grumpy about having to relearn a bound key for what I've taught my hand to be but a click away. Other than that single annoyance, the Katar served its purpose well - it pointed where I wanted it to point and clicked where I wanted to click.
