Corsair Carbide 600C Review


Corsair Carbide 600C Testing:

Testing involved recording temperatures for the CPU, GPU, and motherboard during idle and load phases. The load was simulated by running Prime95’s small FFTs and 3DMark Vantage for one hour. The maximum temperatures were recorded using HW Monitor 1.21.0. Please note that each case is tested from its factory setup, including location of fans, unless otherwise noted.

First we test the CPU temperatures. Idle temperatures are right at the front of the pack, but when you only have a spread of a couple degrees Celsius, either side of that spread is just fine. We crank up the heat and we land at the low end (which is a good thing) at 74 °C. Now, unless you have a case with terrible, restricted air flow, you don't typically see much variance between low and high, so it appears that the 600C has a decent amount of air flow with just the three included stock 140mm fans. 

We move over to GPU testing and we see idle results coming in at 30 °C. Under a load, the temperature goes up to 81 °C, which is consistent with other cases. I don't usually see much variation. The video card I am using (NVIDIA GTX 770) is a reference design with a blower-style fan, which pushes the hot air out of the rear of the case. I find this design is beneficial to keeping internal case temperatures down as compared to cards with fans mounted on the heat sinks that tend to circulate the hot air in the case. That is where a case with good circulation really becomes a factor.

A lot of engineering and testing went into this case series, with the 600Q getting the acoustic attention. But the case fan noise was acceptable during the testing on the 600C. At idle, the fans were silent, while even under a load, the fans were barely audible. The fact that the top of the case is closed off (no top fans or radiators), certainly helps with sound control.
