Antec High Current Gamer 620W Power Supply Review

The Antec High Current Gamer 620W power supply performed reasonably well during testing. The DC voltage load regulation remained well within the expected limits and in combination with reasonable levels of noise/ripple means good quality DC. The measured efficiency didn't quite hit the claimed 80 Plus Bronze mark following the OCC power supply testing methodology but this isn't unusual. What is unusual is the lowered efficiency levels at full load, not a problem, but unexpected nonetheless and maybe to some extent due to the testing methodology and rail loadings? It would be unfair to mark the power supply down too much but this dip in efficiency of maybe 4~5% isn't what would be expected. I would like to think there aren't too many users that would run this power supply at full load for extended periods so an efficiency of 84~86% at what could be considered a real world load of 300W or so isn't too bad. Temperatures aren't a problem and the fan is hardly audible at 300W but noise may be a problem for those users that choose to push the power supply towards full load.

When you look at other power supplies in its class the Antec High Current Gamer 620W is very competitively priced. It's not a high end power and certainly doesn't claim to be but it works well at a good price. If you're after a power supply to run your latest gaming PC with a single powerful graphics card and you don't mind a captive cable set then it's certainly worthy of your consideration. I have no hesitation in recommending the Antec HCG-620, it's price/performance ratio is very good and certainly worthy of the OCC Bronze award.
