Next GeForce GTX Series Might Launch at GTC 2018

Category: Video Cards
Posted: 09:09AM

At the end of March, NVIDIA will be holding its GPU Technology Conference (GTC) and there are rumors this is when the company will launch its next GeForce GTX series of graphics cards. Whether the naming scheme will be the GTX 2080 and GTX 2070 or GTX 1180 and GTX 1170 is not completely known, but the new GPUs will be using the Ampere architecture. Ampere is expected to provide greater performance than Pascal but also be more efficient.

There is also speculation the successor to Volta will be discussed, but this would not be Ampere, as it is being identified as a refresh. Instead, the successor may be the Turing architecture and it will target compute and machine learning tasks. As with all rumors, only time will tell, but at least we only have a month to wait as GTC starts March 26, and there might even be some leaks before then.
