Rumor Claims NVIDIA Launching GA104 in April and GP102 at End of Life

This is completely a rumor and should only be considered a rumor, but it is still interesting. Supposedly, NVIDIA has brought its GP102 die to end of life (EOL), meaning the GPU inside the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti will no longer be produced, but the GA104 die has begun production. The GA104 die would potentially be what goes in the next GTX 2080/2070 GPUs (or maybe GTX 1180/1170 since previously NVIDIA was incrementing by one hundred) and be based on the Ampere architecture, not Volta. We have seen rumors about the Ampere architecture before suggesting it will be in the consumer-targeting GPU while Volta would be for the professional-targeting GPUs.

Going back to the current rumor, the GTX 1080 Ti will eventually go out of stock while the GA104 GPUs will launch in April, which would be two years after GP104 was revealed. If it is true then maybe we will start seeing leaks about its performance soon, so we can learn how it compares to the current crop of Pascal-based NVIDIA GPUs. Until then, we will need to wait and see if any of this is accurate and hope whatever GPUs come next will be available at MSRP.
