For some time the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift were the two VR headsets you could get for PCs, but the landscape is changing now with Windows Mixed Reality headsets, like the Lenovo Explorer, now available. Undoubtedly to move the technology forward and to better compete, HTC has developed the Vive Pro and shown it off at CES 2018. The Vive Pro brings many improvements over the original headset, including an upgrade to the displays, which are now dual-OLED and offer a combined resolution of 2880x1660 with a field of view of 110º. That represents a 78% increase over the original Vive.

Other improvements include headphones and an amplifier built into the headset, dual microphones for active noise cancellation, and dual front-facing cameras. The ergonomics have been altered as well, shifting the center of gravity back on the headset, making it more comfortable. The display portion has also been given a better gasket, to better block ambient light, and can be adjusted forward and back.

Perhaps just as important as the new headset is the Vive Wireless Adaptor that utilizes Intel's WiGig technology to stream video over the 60 GHz band. This band is interference free and offers lower latency for better performance. It will work with both the Vive Pro and original Vive. The adaptor will be shipping in Q3 but the Vive Pro details on price and availability for the Vive Pro will be coming in the future.
