Clarification on AMD Adrenalin DX9 Issue Provided

Some of you may have seen a story come up recently on the Internet regarding a bug with the recently released AMD Adrenalin drivers preventing some DirectX 9 games from launching. The list of games impacted include The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, multiple Command & Conquer titles, and Crysis when run in DX9 mode. Some games would simply fail to launch and others would be unstable. With so many games using DirectX 9, this is a fairly serious issue and initially there was an AMD response that this issue would not be fixed, due to the age of the titles affected.

Fortunately, this original response is inaccurate, as Terry Makedon, Director of AMD software strategy and user experience, stated yesterday on Twitter (@CatalystMaker) the issue would be investigated and today he updated the cause has been identified. With this cause found, the driver team will be able to develop a proper fix to the problem.

Until this fix is released, if you want to play these older games and are having trouble, some users are returning to the previous Radeon Crimson Relive drivers. A temporary work-around until the fix comes.
