Raja Koduri Joining Intel as Company Wants to Enter High-End Discrete Graphics

It was just this morning I wrote and posted on Raja Koduri leaving AMD, where he had been the head of Radeon Technologies Group, and now we know where he is going, and some of the work he will be doing. Intel has hired him to be a chief architect and Senior Vice President of the Core and Visual Computing Group, a newly formed group within the company. With Koduri, Intel hopes to unify and expand intellectual property across computing, graphics, media, imaging, and machine intelligence, ultimately allowing it to lead in computing and graphics with new components.

This is definitely interesting news, as Intel has not had much luck previously with developing discrete graphic solutions, and is even more interesting with the recently announced AMD-Intel partnership. That partnership is to bring a semi-custom Radeon GPU with HBM2 onto the same package as an Intel CPU to make powerful, yet still thin laptops.

Raja Koduri will officially start at Intel in early December.

Kind of takes the steam out of his going away letter!
