GIGABYTE, a leading manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards, has officially revealed that its 100 series motherboards are the first in the world to feature Intel’s new USB 3.1 premium I/O controller onboard. The 100 series motherboards from GIGABYTE support the new Intel 6th generation Core processors, which offer increased efficiency and performance over previous generations. The controller from Intel, which provides users with support for various protocols such as USB 3.1, and in the future, DisplayPort 1.2 connectivity and Thunderbolt 3, utilizes PCIe generation three x4 lanes from the chipset and display connectivity from the processor. The wealth of protocol support, as well as the total bandwidth of 40 Gb/s that is available with the new Intel USB 3.1 controller onboard the GIGABYTE 100 series motherboards, is available because of the new popular reversible Type-C connector.

I believe that the announcement pertains to the GIGABYTE 100 series being the first motherboards to feature the USB 3.1 controller from Intel, not just a standard onboard USB 3.1 controller.
