Acer Announces Two New 27-Inch Monitors, Including One with G-SYNC

Over the weekend, Acer announced two new 27-inch monitors that seem pretty similar at first glance, but are quite different when you get down to it. The Acer XB270HU and XG270HU both feature 27" screens, a 2560x1440 resolution, and 144Hz refresh rate, but that's about where the similarities end. The XB270HU features an IPS panel and NVIDIA G-Sync, which makes it one of the only IPS monitors with G-SYNC. That piece of NVIDIA tech allows for frame rates to sync with the monitor's refresh rate to present far smoother gameplay than what was possible before, so even a frame rate in the 30s will look buttery smooth. And because the XB270HU supports a 144Hz refresh rate, gamers capable of hitting that should be in for quite a treat. No connections were mentioned for the XB270HU, but most likely it will have DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI, and DVI; just don't hold me to that.

The XG270HU lacks G-SYNC and is most likely a TN panel, but it also has a world's first claim: an edge-to-edge display. This should be welcome news for anyone wanting to run multiple monitors in a row, as the XG270HU's frameless design should be ideal for that setup. It also has an HDMI 2.0 port, which supports high refresh rates and enables 4K gaming at 60Hz. There's also DVI and DisplayPort 1.2 on the XG270HU, so pretty much everyone should find a compatible connector with their video card.

Sadly we'll have to wait until March to get our hands on either (or both of) the Acer XB270HU and XG270HU. We also don't know the exact price for each one, but expect that information before long.
