Razer's Project Fiona - PC Gaming in a Unique Tablet Design

Remember that fairly cryptic video Razer posted last week that looked to show a tablet? It was known only as Project Fiona, and today at CES, Razer has officially taken the wraps off it. Project Fiona is Razer's latest entry in the PC market, joining the Blade, but Project Fiona is not exactly what one would consider a PC. It is a tablet, but not like any of the more recent tablets we have come to see. At the center of the device is a 10.1" 1280x800 touchscreen with an Intel Core i7 Ivy Bridge processor powering it, and most likely Windows 8 providing the OS. Those last two should help give Project Fiona a boost, but there are some other additions as well. On either side of the touchscreen are attached controllers, with an analog stick and four buttons near the top of each one on the front, and two buttons on the rear. Razer says these have been inspired by PC gamepads, and they do look the part, which Razer says will give gamers the full PC gaming experience in the tablet form-factor. Instead of relying on touchscreen controls and accelerometers, Project Fiona lets you use actual buttons and joysticks to control your character.

The controllers on either side also have force feedback to enhance the immersion factor while you game. Dolby 7.1 surround sound has been integrated in Project Fiona, and it is even THX certified so you should not miss any sound during a game. Not much else is known about Project Fiona, like the full list of its specifications, how you will get the games, and even a launch date, but Razer is adamant in saying Project Fiona is still a concept device. Any of the internals could change, possibly even the externals, but Razer says if there is enough demand for Project Fiona, it could have units ready by the end of the year. Razer says the price should be at or under $1,000, but wants to hear from the PC gaming community before pushing forward with it.

So, what is your take on Project Fiona? Could something like this actually work or should Razer try to make the Switchblade concept a reality? Sound off below or in the forums.

I think they are trying too many gimmicks. What is this stuff? Just stop making these and improve the peripheral lines. Pc gaming = keyboard and mouse imo... This should just be called portable gaming.

I like the concept. Take the best of the tablets and the best of handhelds. The only flaws are going to be the price and if they can line up enough games.
