1080p Gaming Budget Builds:

I selected the parts here to reflect a low price point aimed at some solid 1920x1080 resolution gaming. Both the Intel i3 8100 and AMD Ryzen 3 1300X are very capable CPUs, but on the lowest tier ($500 range) overclocking isn't an option for either due to the motherboard or CPU itself not supporting the function. It is very hard to hit a $500 target without some major sacrifices and it limits many upgrade paths. The prefix "K" is needed on any Intel CPU to allow for overclocking and on the AMD Ryzen side, a CPU with an "X" prefix and a B350 chipset or higher is required.

However, if your favorite game is a Blizzard game or one that takes low resources, like Minecraft, Rocket League, or Counter-Strike, then these builds will keep your FPS high and happiness meter on overdrive. I remember the first computer I built was on a limited budget of just over $500. I made a few mistakes along the way and wished a list like this existed for me. But have no fear, OCC has you covered!
