Zalman Z9 NEO & Z11 NEO Testing:

For both cases, testing involved recording temperatures for the CPU and GPU during idle and load phases. The load was simulated by running Prime95’s small FFTs and 3DMark Vantage for one hour. The maximum temperatures were recorded using HW Monitor 1.21.0. Please note that each case is tested from its factory setup, including location of fans, unless otherwise noted. The venerable Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler is the standard test cooler. This cooler is still relevant today, despite the fact that it was released in 2009.

Both cases showed similar temps at idle, which is no surprise, but we do see a divergence of four degrees with the CPU under load. The Z9 comes in at 76 °C and the Z11 comes in at 80 °C. These are similar sized cases, but the fan layout is a bit different. The Z9 has the advantage with two front 120mm fans and two top 120mm fans; compared to the Z11 with one fan each in the front and top. I believe that we would see similar temps if we had the same fan configuration between the two cases. The Z11 does have the two 80mm fans in the side panels, which is a cool idea (see what I did there - fans - cool), but these are really for air circulation around the hard drives and not so much for the case itself.

Now, looking at the GPU testing, we see idle results coming in at 32 °C, which is certainly in the normal range, and under a load the GPU temp hits the 81 °C mark for both cases, which is consistent with other cases. I don't usually see much variation with the GPU load testing. The video card I am using (NVIDIA TITAN X) is a reference design with a blower-style fan, which pushes the hot air out of the rear of the case. I find this design is beneficial to keeping internal case temperatures down compared to cards with fans mounted on the heat sinks that tend to circulate the hot air in the case.
