XFX Radeon RX 580 8GB GTS Black Edition Testing:

For Honor:

For Honor is an action-fighting game set during a medieval period with a unique fantasy twist. Players can play as a character from three different factions representing knights, samurai, and Vikings. Each faction has four classes for players to experience and decimate their foes. This is another of Ubisoft's titles and features the AnvilNext game engine.

Settings

  • Extreme Preset

3DMark:

3DMark: The just-released version of Futuremark's popular 3DMark suite is designed to let a wider range of the user base make a comparative analysis of the gaming prowess of their systems from entry level PCs, to notebooks, and extreme gaming PCs.

VRMark:

VRMark is a new test designed to see if your system is truly VR capable and to what extent those capabilities are. Featureing the Orange Room Test that validates that the system is capable of delivering the needed FPS levels to view through an HTC Vive or Oculus Rift. The Blue Room test pushes the settings even higher with 5K textures so that you can see where the gaps are in your VR setup. Upcoming for 2017 is the Cyan Room test, a Direct X 12 VR Benchmark.

Settings:

  • Orange Test
  • Blue Test

In For Honor at 1920x1080, there is a measurable performance imporvement over the RX 480 and comparable performance against the GTX 1060. As the resolution increases, the performance gaps shrink. The 3DMark results mirror pretty much every test with how the card performance is stratified. In VRMark, the results still are going to be on the cusp of great VR performance on its own in the orange test, but when you scale the resolution and settings up in the blue test, the XFX RX 580 is not up to the task on its own. But neither is even the king of the hill GTX 1080 Ti FE. Overclocking helps add another couple average FPS, but will not be that ultimate solution to gain 20+% worth of FPS performance.
