Temperature, Noise Levels and Fan Speeds:

 

I am not going to give a pass or fail in this section, as the ATX12V V2.2 does not really have any references on which to base a decision.

Temperatures are purely for information only, as there are too many variables involved when installed in a case, which, by the way, it wasn't. Ambient temperature, processor cooling efficiency and case cooling fans all play their part on the temperature of the air entering the power supply, and consequently the temperature of the air leaving it. No valid conclusions can be made from this test.

The cooling fan on Thermaltake Toughpower XT 775W remained whisper quiet even a full DC loading with a maximum measured speed of only 1300 rpm and exhaust temperatures on a par with other power supplies in its class.

The FanDelayCool feature on the first generation of Thermaltake Toughpower XT power supplies had a miniature slide switch on the back panel which enabled the user to select the amount of time the fan remained running at PC shutdown up to a maximum of approximately 30 seconds. The switch has been removed on this next generation of XT units and instead has been fixed at approximately 30 seconds. The FanDelayCool feature of this particular power supply when shutdown at full load resulted in the fan speed immediately dropping from 1300 rpm to 1080 rpm and continuing to run for a further 25 seconds. This feature will no doubt extend the life of the power supply but with typical mean time before failure figures of 100,000 hours or 11 years, is it just a gimmick?
