Middle-earth: Shadow of War Full Experience Review

Conclusion (Base Game Only):

Is Shadow of War a fight worth having? Yes through Act III, but right now I would say that if you wanted to stop there and not continue through Act IV, I do not think anyone should complain about that decision. Hopefully this will be different when it is changed in the future, but without the changes before me, it can only be a hope. Act IV is just such a grind without reward that lasts for many hours, so at least for how I have been playing it (focused playing, powering through the game so I can write this review), I am doubtful I will return to it. Perhaps a different playstyle, spreading the time out would be better, but again it is not very rewarding.

The graphics are good, but I do not find them impressive. The performance is pretty good, even at max settings, which is pretty cool for a modern, open world game when there can be a lot to show on the screen. The story has multiple layers and themes to it, which I enjoy, though the primary motivator is still simply to defeat Sauron. The characters in it can be interesting and at times amusing as well, making it fun to listen and pay attention to them. The gameplay is fun but has imperfections, though there is still plenty of enjoyment to be had. Act IV is an issue, but come July 17 that will hopefully be changed into something much better. (Unfortunately I cannot promise to return to Shadow of War at that time.)
