Patriot Ignite 480GB: Testing

PCMark 8 Storage test. This test is used to measure the performance of SSDs, HDDs, and even hybrid solutions by running a set of traces through real world applications to determine drive performance. Each of the routines, as well as the overall scoring and bandwidth tests, are used for a performance comparison with higher results indicating superior peformance.

IO Meter is an I/O subsystem measurement and characterization tool for single and clustered systems. It was originally developed by the Intel Corporation and announced at the Intel Developers Forum (IDF) on February 17, 1998. Since then, it has seen widespread use within the industry.

PC Mark 8 offers up a strong dose of real world workloads. Patriots Ignite 480GB drive falls a bit short, scoring on the low end of the bell curve when compared to the Sandforce and Barefoot controlled drives in the PCMark 8 testing. In IO Meter, the Patriot Ignite does, again, step up and deliver performance through most of the categories. CPU usage in this test is fairly high running at between 9.2% and 11.6% while running the random workloads.
