Testing:

Power Consumption of the system will be measured in both idle states and load stated and will take into account the peak voltage of the system with each video card installed. I will use MSI Kombuster to load the GPU for a 15 minute test an use the peak load of the system as my result for the maximum load. The idle results will be measured after 15 minutes of inactivity on the system.

Settings

  • MSI Kombuster Stability test
  • 1920x1200 Resolution
  • 8XAA

Lower = Better

At its stock speeds of 800/1600/2000Mhz the Palit Sonic GTX 460 delivers lower power numbers than the GTX 465. When overvolted and overclocked further the current used scales upwards. Knocking the clock speeds down to the clocks on the reference GTX 460 the current used dropped by 22 watts to 333 under load.
