Installation:

As the quick start guide states, install the software first. Pop the installation CD into your drive and follow the on-screen instructions. First select your language and then select "install software".

Next, continue to follow the setup instructions which are all pretty generic.

Once the driver is installed, the setup program for the software will automatically start. Again, fairly typical setup dialog boxes appear. Just follow the on screen instructions.

When you have finished installing the software, you will have to restart your computer in order to allow the changes to take effect.

After you restart your computer, the setup program automatically launches the final phase of the installation. At this point you will have to plug in and power up the OneTouch III, and also connect the unit to your computer.

There isn’t much to hook up when installing the OneTouch III. Just install the power cable and connect to your computer with the interface of choice. There are three ways you can connect the OneTouch III to you computer. You can connect via USB, firewire 1394a or firewire 1394b. The fastest of these connections is the 1394b but I will use the USB connection as it is a very common interface.

After you have powered up the OneTouch III and connected it to your computer, your computer should automatically detect the drive and load the proper drivers for it. The software will then ask you to format the disk. Maxtor has made this a painless task, as all you have to do is press “format” button and a very short time later it’s done.

Your computer should now automatically detect the drive and load the proper drivers for it. With the installation completed, we can now configure the software.
