I have to say that this is one great product! A KVM switch allows you to control multiple computers with one mouse, keyboard and video monitor. Thus allowing you to free up desk space and save on hardware cost. I first came across this product while doing a few network installations and I immediately knew I had to have one. Just the thought of not having to reach behind my computers to switch my monitor cable between them had me sold and getting rid of my extra keyboard and mouse was a plus!
This product was a breeze to install! The hardest part was routing the cables and finding a power outlet! First you want to start by shutting down all your computers. Then you want to set the KVM where it is easy to get to. Next plug the mouse, keyboard and video monitor cables in to the console ports on the back of the KVM. Run the cables from each PC port to the mouse, keyboard and video monitor ports of each computer. These cables come in 6', 10' and 15' lengths. I used two 6' cables for my setup. Once you have your computer hooked up connect the AC power adapter to the unit and a power outlet. Then power all you computers and the KVM switch on. The set up is now compleat. To switch between computers just push the button on the front panel of the KVM corresponding to the computer you want to use.
This is a great product for anyone who has more than one computer at there desk. This easily allows me to switch between my Windows2000 computer and my Redhat LINUX file and print server. Plus I still have 2 ports available for future computers I might get. Saving me from having to get another mouse, keyboard and video monitor. All in all a great idea and product!
