Kingston MobileLite Wireless G3 and Wireless Pro 64GB: Introduction
The world as we know it now has become dependent on mobile solutions. Just about everyone age ten and over has a cellphone and tablets have been surpassing laptops in sales. With such a connected life, it's only obvious that eventually we would overuse our current devices' storage capacity with high-resolution photos, hundreds of music tracks, and the HD/4K videos we like to carry around to watch on our down time. The problem is that as our needs expand, sometimes the storage capacities do not. Look at devices from Apple, like the iPhone and iPad, which have limited storage and no way for expansion cards to be used. Even on the Android front, as we saw with the Samsung Galaxy S6 line, the storage options were limited. So, what do we do in these cases?
Well, some manufacturers saw the problem and went to work on a solution. One solution was wireless drives that can be used by many users at the same time and not only for storage, but for streaming content as well. Kingston, known for its memory and flash drive offerings, created the MobileLite Wireless drives a few years ago to help solve this issue. Today we are going to be taking a look at the latest products in the MobileLite - the MobileLite Wireless G3 and the MobileLite Wireless Pro 64GB. These two wireless devices offer external storage access to any Android or iOS device via apps, allowing the user to expand their library to any imaginable size. This is because the MobileLite Wireless third generation devices allow multiple storage mediums to be used such as USB, SD, and even built-in storage on some models. To up the ante, the devices also function as a last ditch emergency charger for your phones, should you need it.
Do I have your interest piqued yet? Then how about we dive right in and take a better look at these two latest additions and see how they work.
Kingston MobileLite Wireless G3 and Wireless Pro 64GB:Closer Look
Kingston was generous enough to send us two models to look at today, which is the MobileLite Wireless G3 in white and the MobileLite Wireless Pro in black. The Pro version adds internal storage to the device, allowing you to use it without having to plug in any external drives or SD cards, making it ready to go right out of the box. The devices are about the size of a deck of cards and both models have USB and SD card ports just like the previous generations. This allows you to use high capacity SD cards and USB thumb drives to expand your mobile device storage to an unlimited amount and has full access on the go. For the SD cards, you can use any SD, SDHC, SDXC, and MicroSD versions of the same with the included adapter.
On the front of the packaging, there are pictures of the two devices showing the port options you have available to you. On the Pro version, you can also see the 64GB included storage on this model. Switching to the back of the box, you can see some of the features, such as the included storage on the Pro model and the ability to charge smartphones and tablets from the MobileLite Wireless devices in a pinch. There are apps that are needed to access the devices that are available in the Apple App Store, Google Play, and the Amazon Marketplace.
Taking the devices out we can get a better look at what is included with each one. In each box is the MobileLite Wireless unit itself; a USB to Micro-USB cable used for charging the device's battery; a MicroSD card adapter that allows you to use the smaller MicroSD cards for storage, which is also good for upgrading your internal SD card on some Android devices to a larger one, and then having the ability to copy over all of the old data from the old card to the new one; and, finally, there is the Quick Start Guide to get you up and running as soon as possible.
Now that we have them both out of the box, we can take a better look at each one.
