Intel Core i9 7900X & Core i7 7740X Testing:

SiSoft Sandra is a diagnostic utility and synthetic benchmarking program. Sandra allows you to view your hardware at a higher level to be more helpful. For this benchmark, I will be running a broad spectrum of tests to gauge the performance of key functions of the CPUs.

Processor Arithmetic

Multi-Core Efficiency

Memory Bandwidth

Cache and Memory

AIDA64 Extreme Edition is a software utility designed for hardware diagnosis and benchmarking. I will be using the CPU Queen test that looks for the solution to the "Queens" problem on a 10x10 chessboard. This tests the branch prediction capabilities of the processor. The FPU Mandel test measures double precision floating point performance through the computation of several frames of the "Mandelbrot" fractal.

In the tests where inter-core communication is tested on the Skylake X Core i9 7900X, we see that the bandwidth increases significantly over prior products, while inter-core latency takes a hit with this new architecture. Memory performance on the X299 platform with the Core i9 7900X is very similar to the results delivered by the X99 platform. In the AIDA64 tests, the CPU Queen test results are right where they should be, although the FPU Mandel results at stock speeds would only perform up to expectations when the clock speeds were manually set in the BIOS at the Turbo Boost clocks. When overclocked, the speeds are manually set and show a massive improvement. My test system is running the latest BIOS and this issue cropped up with earlier BIOS revisions.
