Testing:

Now we get to the best part of the review, the testing phase. To test these boards, I will be running a series of scientific and video-based benchmarks designed to push the hardware to the limits and show their potential. Once the results are in. they will be placed next to each other to show how well they perform amongst each other. To make sure there are no outside variables that would affect the scores, all the hardware will be run at their stock speeds, latencies, and voltages.

  • Processor: Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.718GHz 1.55v
  • System Memory: OCZ Spec Ops 2x2GB @ 1649MHz 7-7-7-20

Overclocked settings: Gigabyte MA785G-UD3H

  • Processor: Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.711GHz 1.525v
  • System Memory: OCZ Reaper HPC 2x2GB @ 802MHz 5-5-5-18

To test the overclocking for the boards, I started off pushing the multiplier up a little at a time until I hit at wall and could no longer boot. Then I would switch over to the BUS speed and slowly increase it up until again the computer would not boot. Once I reached a comfortable number for the multiplier and the BUS speed, the overclocked settings were dialed in and set for the testing. The 790X board clocked a bit higher than the 770 board, while the 785G boards came in last. The average clock speed was 3.8GHz between all four of the boards when overclocked.
