Deepcool Assassin II Conclusion:

I never got a chance to evaluate the original Assassin cooler, but I hear that it did a great job at heat removal. Regardless, the Assassin II clearly raises the bar and it makes short work of the heat - and it does so very quietly. I have to admit that I am a fan of the performance and the wow factor that liquid AIO (All-In-One) coolers deliver, and they are becoming quite common and affordable. But it is hard to beat the simplicity, reliability, and performance of a solid, well-built air cooler like the Assassin II.

Installation was a breeze and Deepcool made sure that RAM clearance concerns will be minimal. The new GF series fans are remarkably quiet and the rubber frames further ensure that fan noise will be kept at a minimum. At 167mm tall, you will want to make sure your case can handle a cooler of this size. Also, you will definitely want a case with a clear side window to show off the Assassin II. You don't want to keep a nice looking cooler like the Assassin II in the dark.

The load temperatures for stock and overclock were excellent. That monster base and eight heat pipes give the Assassin II the ability to keep the heat down, and the spread between stock and overclocked load performance was a rather narrow four degrees Celsius. The overclocked load temp of 74 °C is well within the range of liquid cooling and in fact the Assassin II performed better than two of the liquid coolers I have tested. It is also quiet under a load. The fans spool up, but the sound is not annoying or excessive. Deepcool definitely has the right combination with the Assassin II.

The Assassin II is an aesthetically pleasing cooler, and  the red and black fan colors are a plus for me. The Assassin II has a retail list price of $89.99, which is right in line with coolers of similar size and performance. If you are looking for a cooling solution that is a big leap above stock cooling, the Assassin II is worth checking out. You won't be disappointed.
