COUGAR 700K Keyboard Testing & Results:

The COUGAR 700K keyboard was defiantly put through over a week of use and testing. During this time it was used it in everyday use, surfing the Internet, ranting on forums, and, of course, some gaming. As a keyboard is personal to each and every individual, how it responds in these various tasks is important in different ways to everyone. This rather subjective review is best to provide you the feedback from use rather than assigning made up numbers trying to compare one keyboard to another. It's pretty easy to distinguish the likes and dislikes of a keyboard through words rather than leaving it to you to decide what a 7 or 8 really means. No guessing game – here's what I liked, and here's what I hated.

Testing Setup:

Before I even bother with categories, I will put my general complaint here that applies to every category possible with the keyboard (minus maybe gaming). The split space bar. There I said it. I hate it. Typing with it is a pain in the ass. It took me several hours to learn not to hit the split, and to somehow get both thumbs to use the left one, and/or completely rely on only one thumb to do my space bar work. It angered me greatly "learning" to type again. My typing is still considerably terrible with this new learned "skill" – I regret forcing myself to write this entire review using it. I digress. How'd it handle otherwise, you might ask? Those of you who are a little more skillful may not find this split to really split your feelings…

Everyday & Working Use:

Ignoring the space bar problem I've defined above, you can say this keyboard otherwise functions as a keyboard in everyday use. Once you get the hang of the space bar, you can write everyday emails and do everyday keyboard things. The space bar issue really took away from my ability to really judge this keyboard in either everyday or working use cases. I will say, as I finally got used to the space bar issue, I did find myself mistyping a lot more than I might normally – although even this started to go away. I'm not sure I found any reasons to make this a valid reason for relearning such a child-ish skill.

Gaming:

Because you usually only use your left hand in gaming, the split space bar does not affect your typical gaming performance! YAY! I could handle this. To me, I found this keyboard to be a typical keyboard when gaming. The extra wrist rest was nice for gaming and I found myself not really moving it away even when typing normally. It's hard to argue for the macros over the 600K as I personally don't use macro keys, but it's a major win for some of you. I hated the space bar for regular use, so it was just always in the way to me. I didn't find it advantageous to gaming as it was a reach even if I wanted to use it as a macro, so I find it to be a loss overall. It just didn't really add anythign to the keyboard. If you want macros, the 700K makes sense; elsewise, stick with the 600K.
