Corsair Strafe RGB Mechanical Keyboard: Conclusion

The Corsair Strafe RGB MX Silent mechanical keyboard worked perfectly after installing the drivers from the Corsair website! Lighting options worked well, colors reproduced correctly, and there was a long list of default lighting effects to choose from. Furthermore, users can create and share custom lighting effects through the Corsair website. The Cherry MX Silent Red key switches are amazing. They are not truly silent, but are much quieter than the original Cherry Red key switches and other variants. Adding O-rings to the key caps did not seem to further quiet the key switches, so isn't worth the effort. The "clackity" nature of the Cherry switches seems to be love or hate for everyone; if you miss the noise, Corsair also offers the Strafe RGB with the classic Red, Brown, and Blue key switches.

The only real con I could find for this keyboard is the lack of storage system – not even a bag was included to store the extra key caps and key puller. Another gripe could be the lack of a driver disk, but as long as you have an Internet connection, you will be fine. And if you're willing to drop $150 on a keyboard, you most likely would have an Internet connection to go along with it. Other than those minor issues, the keyboard operated flawlessly. Pricing is in line with other premium mechanical keyboards, plus this features the newest Cherry key switches – the MX Silent Reds.

Last but not least, the CUE software developed by Corsair can link up to the company's other RGB offerings, including headsets and mice, which allows sharing color schemes and lighting effects across all the connected devices. Plus, the RGB LEDs support 16.7m color output options, so there's something for everyone. In addition, all the keys can have their output customized and changed, with any key able to be set up as a macro. All these options make a great keyboard on their own, but when they come together and work properly, they make an excellent keyboard.

Pros:

  • Cherry MX Silent RGB Red key switches
  • RGB LED lighting
  • Extremely customizable color capabilities
  • Can share and download lighting effects, macros, and more
  • All keys can be changed or be used for macros

Cons:

  • No storage for extra key caps and key puller
