Cooler Master Hyper D92 Conclusion

I know that in this review I have compared the D92 to the N520 several times, and I don't want you to think that the N520 was not a good cooler. I have not personally tested the N520, so all I can do is look back through old reviews. It would be nice to put the two coolers head to head and see how the old school performs with the heat of the latest CPUs. Regardless, my point is to highlight the changes and improvements that Cooler Master has implemented in the development of the Hyper D92. The D92 is more than just a refresh of the N520. It brings a higher level of performance. It has evolved to keep up with the demands of today's CPUs. And it delivers this new level of performance in a relatively small package. Cooler Master reports that the D92 exhibits 10% better performance than the N520.

The list of improvements include the use of direct contact heat pipes to improve efficiency, as Cooler Master has successfully used on other models. The D92 uses dual 92mm 4-pin PWM fans in a push / pull configuration to effectively move the air through the cooler, and the offset design keeps the dead air space behind the fan hubs to a minimum. The mounting system for the new fans is also impressive, as are the retained mounting screws on the base. This certainly makes the installation a fast and smooth operation. The D92 also comes with a convenient 4-pin splitter cable so you can plug into one CPU fan header and control both fans.

The shorter stature gives it an advantage if you are building with a small / shallow case. The compact nature of the cooler allows for RAM clearance, which is also a plus. I am also impressed with the cooling capacity of the D92, given its relatively small size. The fans may spool up and let you know they are there, but when the heat kicks in, the D92 can handle it.

Cooler Master provides a two-year warranty on the D92 and pricing comes in at $44.99, which is certainly a reasonable price for what you get. So if you need to beat the heat, then you should take a look at the Cooler Master Hyper D92. Big time performance in a mid tower package.

Pros:

  • Direct contact (DC) heat pipes
  • RAM clearance
  • Fast, easy installation
  • Easy to remove fans
  • Separate power lead for fans (splitter)
  • Two-year warranty

Cons:

  • Fans noise is noticeable when running at full speed
