The Thermaltake Toughpower 1000W has previously been reviewed here by OCC, so please take a look and see how OCC formerly tested power supplies. This testing method does have its merits, it is after all how the power supply will be used in the "real world" and not all sites have the expertise or equipment to test them any other way.
You would be right in saying this power supply has been on the market for quite some time now and a label on the box tells me it was an Official Power Supply at the 2007 World Cyber Games. If Thermaltake are still sending this power supply out to review sites like OCC, then I can only pressume it's going to be available for some time yet.
Thermaltake have kindly let OCC have another Toughpower 1000W for me to test and this time around I will be giving it a little more to think about and see how it actually performs delivering its rated power output. Will it make the grade? Let's see.
The Thermaltake Toughpower 1000W is packaged in a gloss finished box on which is given a selection of the main features and the power supply specification. The lid shows the obligatory power supply photograph along with the power supply wattage, CableManagement which I think is Thermaltake speak for modular, some of the main features, 80 Plus and Crossfire certified logos. The underside of the box shows the same photograph of the power supply along with a few more of the main technology features with photographs and quantities of all the available connectors.
The same information is shown on the front and rear panels of the box along with a WCG 2007 Official Power Supply sticker.
A small paragraph in eight different languages pointing the user in the direction of the Thermaltake website for more information along with a detailed specification table on one panel and on the other the features list along with its model number and type. Both end panels also have a sticker along the bottom with icons of all the agencies for which the Thermaltake Toughpower 1000W has gained approval.
Open the box and everything is neatly packaged inside. The user manual is laid on top of the power supply foam protector and the modular cable bag fitted neatly down one side. Lift the foam away and the power supply is further protected with a bubble wrap envelope.
The bubble wrapped power supply showing the hard wired cables and the included accessories set, boxed power cord, user manual, Key 3 Spirit leaflet, anti-vibration gasket and modular cable bag.
The Thermaltake Toughpower 1000W is well protected for transit and the accessories bundle is excellent. Let's move on and have a closer look.
