Modern computer chips are almost unbelievably complex and to make it all more manageable for designing and validating, various tools have been developed. Now Intel has purchased NetSpeed Systems, a company that has been creating tools for system-on-chip (SoC) designers. What NetSpeed makes is a scalable, coherent, network-on-chip (NoC) tool that can automate the design of an SoC front-end and produce a programmable and synthesizable interconnect fabric that is efficient and high performance. Intel has already been a customer of NetSpeed, and existing customer contracts will be honored, but it will become an internal asset for Intel going forward. The CEO and co-founder of the company, Sundari Mitra, who previously worked at Intel, will become a vice president at Intel and report to Jim Keller, who leads the Silicon Engineering Group.
