After being announced in January, we now have a release date for the Galactic Civilizations III: Intrigue Expansion and it is April 11. This expansion promises many changes, including the addition of politics, government, and galactic trade, all of which you can stay up to date on with the Galactic News Network (GNN). One of the new mechanics is to allow worlds in your empire to gain independence by giving them commonwealth status. While this does mean your micromanagement will not be so requested, there will be financial benefits and you gain their political support too.

Along with the release of Intrigue will be the release of the 3.0 update for the base game, and therefore all players. This update brings changes and new mechanics, such as setting the tax rate from the govern screen, tourism to grow your influence, farming on a planet's arable tiles, and more common extreme worlds. The frequency of finding extreme worlds has been increased and some species will be able to colonize them without special technologies, such as carbon-based lifeforms settling on a corrosive planet while Synthetic life cannot.

To mark the expansion's release, Stardock founder and CEO Brad Wardell will be playing it with Angry Joe on YouTube and Twitch the day of. The time of the stream is still to be determined, but you can follow Stardock's Facebook and Twitter channels for updates on that.
