Supreme Court Rejects Samsung's Appeal in Apple Suit

Remember the Apple-Samsung lawsuit? It is in the news again as Samsung's appeal to the Supreme Court has been rejected. After a Federal Court's decision against the Korean company, only the Supreme Court was left to go to, but it is refusing to hear arguments, leaving the Federal Court's ruling in place. This ruling awarded Apple nearly $120 million.

Actually this appeal was only for one part of the original case from years ago and concerns a ruling being reinstated. Previously a three-judge panel had overturned a verdict against Samsung concerning infringement of features such as slide-to-unlock, autocorrect, and quick links, but later a jury of 11 judges put it back in place. Samsung's appeal to the Supreme Court claimed this reinstatement was inappropriate, as additional legal papers were not considered and oral arguments were not heard. Samsung even claimed the judges had changed a law related to invalidating patents and awarding injunctions. Apple's stance was there was nothing "novel or important" to consider in Samsung's appeal.
