GDDR6 Wielding GPU Coming by Early 2018

SK Hynix recently introduced the world's fastest 2Znm 8Gb GDDR6 DRAM, which has an I/O data rate of 16 Gbps per pin. The GDDR6 standard is to be twice as fast as GDDR5 while operating at 10% less voltage, making it a very desirable product. What else makes this GDDR6 announcement interesting though is that the company also states it will be used in a "forthcoming high-end graphics card" and that it is working with a client to produce enough for a release by early 2018. While this client is not identified, it is still a clear indication that GDDR6 GPUs are coming possibly in less than a calendar year.

The press release provides some other information, including that the graphics card will have 384-bit I/Os, with the DRAM processing up to 768 GBps. SK Hynix is also working with the client to ensure timely mass production of GDDR6 for upcoming market demands.
