Release Date Set for Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation

Earlier this year we saw the release of Ashes of the Singularity, a new RTS from Stardock that leveraged the power of DirectX 12 to fill the map with battling units. Now we know that on November 3 its first expansion, Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation is going to be released. This standalone expansion has the goal of addressing some of the base game's prime criticisms by adding a better story-driven campaign, new environment classes, an art pass, and a strategic zoom.

For its campaign, Escalation is going to make more use of the universe's lore, which can be found in the Dawn of the Singularity book by David Simpson. The original campaign has also been updated and enhanced to flow into the Escalation campaign as though they are a single experience. The new environment classes for the expansion are Crystalline and Volcanic world, but all of the game has also received a "top to bottom" art pass. For those of you with the base game, you will not be left out on this as the updated visuals will be coming out as a free update after November 3.

Escalation will also have almost double the number of units and buildings than the base game, including defensive structures that can be upgraded. Perhaps the most important addition for some though is that of the strategic zoom. It works in a similar manner to the one you find in Sins of a Solar Empire, another Stardock RTS, and will hopefully make it easier for all of us to manage our massive armies across the map. This might be something that makes its way to base game after Escalation releases. It was not in the base game originally because the developers thought that "people would be turned off by an abstracted zoomed out view of the world." Now even designer of Ashes of the Singularity and CEO of Stardock, Brad Wardell admits this assumption was wrong.

Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation releases on November 3 at 1 PM EST. For new users it will cost $39.99 but for those who own the base game already, it will be 50% off or $19.99, whichever is cheaper.
