There are a lot of expectations for technology in this new year and virtual reality is near the top of the list. Multiple head mounted displays are set to launch this year, but to drive them is going to require powerful computers. To help consumers know if a machine is capable of pushing out two simultaneous images at 90 FPS, NVIDIA is launching its GeForce GTX VR Ready program at CES. This program will award systems a badge if they are VR ready and several manufacturers are already partnered with NVIDIA, including Alienware, MAINGEAR, MSI, Asus, Acer, HP, and more.

At the center of this new program is NVIDIA's Maxwell architecture featured in the GTX 970 and GTX 980. The architecture was designed with VR in mind and has support for features like Multi-Res Shading, which can improve performance by 50%. Other system requirements include USB 3.0 support, HDMI 1.3, an Intel Core i5-4590 or better CPU, 8+ GB of RAM, and Windows 7 SP1 or newer.
