The Raspberry Pi Foundation has announced the next iteration of its popular small form factor computer, the Raspberry Pi 2. The new system uses a 900MHz quad core ARM Cortex-A7 chip from Broadcom, offering a nearly six fold performance increase over the previously used 700MHz single core ARM11. The Pi 2 also upgraded to 1GB of RAM and maintains the same form factor and connections of the previous generation Pi 1 Model B+ to make upgrading easy for current owners. It will be compatible with a wide variety of Linux Operating Systems including Raspbian and Ubuntu Snappy Core, and it will also introduce support for Windows 10. CEO Eben Upton described the relationship stating, "For the last six months we’ve been working closely with Microsoft to bring the forthcoming Windows 10 to Raspberry Pi 2. Microsoft will have much more to share over the coming months. The Raspberry Pi 2-compatible version of Windows 10 will be available free of charge to makers." The Pi 2 is available immediately at a price of $35, the same cost as the Model B+.
