Plasma Televisions May Be on Their Last Legs

LCD TVs have long been leading the global television market over the once formidable plasma TVs, and now it seems the latter's days are numbered. LG Electronics has announced that its plasma television business will cease by the end of November, which accounted for a mere 2.4% of its 2013 annual revenue. With Panasonic ending its plasma TVs earlier this year, that just leaves Samsung Electronics as the last major player. That being said, sister company Samsung SDI Co Ltd, which supplies Samsung with its plasma panels, are pulling out of the business by the end of November as well, so who knows what's going to happen there.

According to market research firm NPD DisplaySearch, global plasma TV shipments are expected to fall to just 500,000 in 2015, down from 5.2 million in 2014.
