It's rare for a publisher to release a video of a player failing over and over, but that's exactly what Focus Home Interactive did today for Styx: Master of Shadows. Staying true to its word, Focus Home has continued the trend it started two weeks ago of releasing a new gameplay trailer every week until the game's October release. The trailer this time around is entitled "Die Harder", and as you can surmise from the title and from what I said earlier, it basically shows the player dying over and over in a variety of ways. But it's not simply about the player dying, but how he's discovered that has me excited. Arguably the most important aspect in any stealth game is the AI, and in Styx, the AI seems more than competent. No matter where you hide, you're never completely safe from prying eyes.

After watching the trailer above, you may have noticed that a parry icon appears at times, implying that the player could have escaped death if he was quicker. This is what Focus Home had to say: "When cornered, you will be able to parry yourself out of a situation... however, this is definitely not a silent option, and if you find yourself facing even just a few enemies at once, you're goblin toast. Purists will even be able to select the Goblin Mode difficulty, which means that whenever Styx is caught, he has no chance to fight back. Instead, he'll be shot, strangled, hammered, or sliced into pieces the second he's in range and noticed..."

Styx: Master of Shadows will arrive on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 7 with a very reasonable price tag of $29.99/€29.99/£24.99. Pre-purchasing the game on Steam provides a 20% discount, and the offer is actually good until October 13, meaning you could actually wait for reviews if you're on the fence! Kudos to Focus Home for offering a week one discount instead of just a pure pre-order discount!
