One of the biggest surprises of E3 2014 came during Sony's Press Conference, when it was unveiled that Tim Schafer's Double Fine Productions is developing a remastered version of Grim Fandango for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. While the original Grim Fandango wasn't the commercial success LucasArts was hoping for back in 1998, it is one of the most highly acclaimed adventure games of all-time, and has somewhat of a cult following. With Disney shutting down the LucasArts development studio last year and liquidating old IPs, Schafer, who worked on the original game, took the opportunity to purchase the rights with help from Sony. With Sony helping out, don't expect to find the game making its way onto Microsoft and Nintendo consoles, but thankfully the PC is another story:
Reap your heart out! We're pleased to announce Grim Fandango will also be available on PC, Mac, and Linux alongside PlayStation 4 and Vita!— Double Fine (@DoubleFine) July 9, 2014
The news of a PC version isn't exactly surprising considering the original game was a PC exclusive, but it's nice to finally have official, concrete confirmation. No release date has been provided, though it does sound like it will be a simultaneous release for all platforms.
