Although rumors have been circulating recently that hint at the demise of Nexus devices altogether, nothing could be further from the truth according to an Android official. Dave Burke, the head of Android engineering and the Nexus program at Google, noted that while more carrier-friendly phones will be coming out next year via the new Android Silver program, Nexus devices are here to stay. When the coding for a new Android version is being written by Google engineers, a separate team is busy designing a new Nexus device that is tweaked to take advantage of the latest Android features. These internal development stages are not set to end anytime soon and are taking place right now with the recent announcement of Android L.

David Burke noted that while people tend to get excited by new concepts and ideas that are being worked on by Google, the company itself is still invested in Nexus.
