As part of the annual I/O conference this year, Google announced the next version of the Android Operating System, Android L Preview. It will be available starting tomorrow for users with a Google Nexus 5 smartphone or Nexus 7 tablet. The preview release marks a new direction for the Android OS as previous iterations weren't made available until finished. An updated notification screen brings more useful information to the lock screen, enabling faster checking of updates. The camera API has also been expanded giving users the ability to "capture uncompressed video data at 30 frames per second, hardware permitting, and control shutter speed, frame duration, and ISO sensitivity frame by frame." Project Volta gives better information about battery usage by applications including usage over time and a new power-saving mode. Numerous other changes including improved Bluetooth, smarter network handling, and faster apps will also find their way into the new version.
