Sony Halts Development of OLED TVs
While OLED televisions do provide fast response times and vividly clear pictures, Sony does not see a real demand for the technology at this time or in the foreseeable future. Due to such, as well as the growing demand surrounding 4K LCD televisions, Sony has decided to halt its commercial development of OLED televisions. Sony is noting that sales of 4K televisions could help it finally bring in positive revenue from the television business, something that the company has failed to do for the last 11 years. Globally, Sony plans to release eight 4K television models this year and quadruple sales during this fiscal year. The company is hoping that its brand appeal, overall dedication to the 4K television market, and decreased costs will help it achieve its goal of television market growth.
