Netflix to See Price Increases
Netflix has announced within its latest earnings report that the service will soon see price increases, which are expected to be a dollar or two. The price hike will initially affect new customers who join the service, as current customers will be grandfathered into the pricing structure that exists now for a generous time period. Netflix CEO, Reed Hastings, attributed rising content costs as the main reason why Netflix will soon be more expensive for customers. Quite a bit of original content has been brought to the streaming service, such as House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, along with new shows that are scheduled to be available in the future such as Marco Polo, Narcos, and Sense8.
Along with the pricing increase announcement, Netflix also revealed that it will be making its way to cable provided DVRs located in the United States in the near future. The venture into this market will first occur with providers that use TiVo DVRs however, with Netflix attempting to expand into the market even further afterwards.
